Gran jailed after helping Yardie gangster boyfriend smuggle cocaine in to Britain

A gran who led a double life as a drug trafficker after falling for a Yardie gangster has been jailed for 12 years.

Restaurant boss Gillian Weldrick, 53, was arrested as she attempted an airport rendezvous with a mule carrying a kilo of cocaine worth £115,000.

Lover Ortis Ollivierre, 45, had persuaded her to wire £16,000 to the West Indies and then to pick up the drugs.

The judge told her: “The agreement you had to import these drugs illustrates your pure greed and selfishness.”

Barbados drug mule Andrew McCollin, 57, was held at Manchester Airport with the cocaine wrapped around his body.

Ollivierre, also from Barbados, was arrested later at Gatwick .

Weldrick’s lawyer Mark Monaghan said: “She met Ollivierre while working.

“She has been in the same employment for 11 years and worked her way up to restaurant manager.

“This has been a difficult time for her.

Weldrick was arrested at Manchester Airport

“Her two daughters are in court and have had to listen to everything said at the trial and have to accept their mother is going to prison for a significant period of time. I can only ask the court for mercy.”

Weldrick, of Huddersfield, and Ollivierre were both convicted at Manchester Minshull Street crown court of conspiracy to import cocaine and money laundering.

Ollivierre was also jailed for 12 years and will be returned to the West Indies on his release.

McCollin was jailed for four and a half years at an earlier hearing.
