Six-year-old girl collapses and dies while walking to primary school with her mum

A six-year-old girl has died after collapsing while walking to school with her mum.

Little Kyla Blake suddenly fell to the floor after taking only 20 steps from her home in Newport, Isle of Wight, last week.

Paramedics battled to save the youngster after she collapsed while heading to Nine Acres Primary School with her mother, Vickii Pitman.

But despite their best efforts, she was tragically pronounced dead an hour later.

Shortly before her death, Kyla had given her 26-year-old mum cuddles on the sofa and helped her to pack her lunchbox ahead of school.

The cause of her death remains unclear.

A spokeswoman for the coroner's office on the Isle of Wight said the coroner is currently deciding whether or not an inquest will be opened.

Kyla leaves behind devastated parents Mrs Pitman and Justin Blake, as well as two sisters, Elena Blake, seven, and Soraya Blake, five.

Last Tuesday, Mrs Pitman updated her Facebook cover photo to an image of her three "beautiful" daughters beaming at the camera.

One of her friends wrote on the site: "My heart goes out to you."

Today, Kyla's headteacher, Beth Dyer, paid tribute to a "lovely and unique" little girl who will be missed by her schoolmates.

Mrs Dyer said: "It is with great sadness for everyone connected with Nine Acres Primary School that we have learned of the death of Kyla.

"She was a lovely and unique pupil and she will be dearly missed by all her schoolmates and the staff.

"We were blessed to have Kyla at Nine Acres Primary and are looking for ways, in discussion with her family, to remember her by.

"Our thoughts are with the family at this most difficult time."

The spokeswoman for the Isle of Wight's coroner's office: said: "No inquest has been opened at this time. It's still with the coroner and she will be making a decision as to whether or not an inquest will be opened."
