The public got to hear from late President John F. Kennedy’s only grandson for the first time on Friday.

Jack Schlossberg is the 24-year-old son of JFK’s only surviving child, Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg, and her husband, exhibit designer Edwin Schlossberg.

The young Schlossberg, born John Bouvier Kennedy Schlossberg, who appeared alongside his mother during an interview on NBC’s TODAY show, praised former President Barack Obama.

Schlossberg said he was ‘inspired by Obama’s vision for America and all the promises he laid out for our country’ when he ran for president in 2008.

The interview was intended to promote the Profile in Courage Award ceremony in Boston on Sunday, when Obama will receive the prize.

The Profile in Courage Award is an honor given by the JFK Library in Boston to public figures who take risks similar to those described by the 35th president in his famous book, Profiles in Courage.

The event will air live on NBC’s sister station MSNBC.

The Kennedy Library will honor Obama with the award for his role in overseeing passage of the Affordable Care Act – also known as Obamacare; his decision to restore ties with Cuba; and his commitment to combat climate change.

Schlossberg, who graduated from Yale University in 2015 and who is about to attend Harvard Law School, was a member of the committee that voted to pick Obama.

He has two older sisters, Tatiana and Rose and spent his year after college working in Japan.

‘This award recognizes that he made tough choices over the last eight years to execute on a vision for America, to give people health care, to get serious about climate change, and to reach out to international partners and really improve America’s standing in the world,’ Schlossberg told Today hosts Matt Lauer and Savannah Guthrie.

‘That takes political courage.’

Though he never mentioned President Donald Trump by name, Schlossberg implicitly criticized the 45th president.

In drawing a distinction between Obama and his Republican successor, the young Schlossberg said: ‘I think we’re seeing today that it’s pretty easy to criticize without offering solutions.

‘President Obama did not do that. He had the courage to govern responsibly.'

The award further cements the close ties between Obama and the Kennedy dynasty.

It was JFK’s brother, the late Massachusetts Senator Ted Kennedy, who is credited by many with ‘changing the course of the 2008 election’ when he endorsed the young Obama over Hillary Clinton in the bitterly contested Democratic primary.

After Obama won re-election in 2012, he named Caroline Kennedy to be US ambassador to Japan.

Now that she has returned stateside after three years in Tokyo, there is speculation that she plans to run for political office.

There have been whispers that Kennedy, 59, could mount a challenge to incumbent New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand in 2018.

Insiders say that Caroline Kennedy’s ‘dream’ is to follow in the footsteps of her late uncle, Robert F. Kennedy, and become senator from New York, according to the New York Post.

When asked if he would like to see his mother run for office, Schlossberg said: ‘I will support my mother in anything she does. That’s her decision and I’ll leave it at that.’

Caroline Kennedy artfully dodged the question of whether she or her son plan to enter politics.

Sporting the signature Kennedy looks, thick hair, and good cheekbones, the emergence of the handsome Schlossberg on the public stage is also likely to fuel speculation that he will one day enter politics.

When asked on Friday if he has any intentions on ‘going into the family business,’ Schlossberg said: ‘I’m inspired by my family’s legacy of public service. It’s something I’m very proud of.

‘Stay tuned. I don’t know what I’m going to do.’
