Malawi, Kenya, Ghana Selected For Malaria Vaccine Test: WHO

Malawi, Kenya and Ghana have been selected by World Health Organization (WHO) to test the world’s first malaria vaccine.

The injectable vaccine project will begin in 2018 in the three African countries where children in hundreds and thousands have been at risk of death due to malaria.

According to WHO regional director for Africa the vaccine will be able to save the children if it is used with the existing measures.

Dr. Matshidiso Moeti added further in a released press statement that whether the countries will be able in delivering four doses of it to every child.

A data reveals over 200 million people are infected and about half a million are killed each year due to malaria, which is still one of the most stubborn health challenges in the world.

The data further reveals most of the malaria victims are from Africa.

As of now insecticides and bed netting are used as chief protection methods from malaria.

A report of 2015 reveals 90 percent of the malaria cases in the world were in the Sub-Saharan Africa.

Between 2000 and 2015 the deaths rate due to the disease was cut by 62 percent after initiative was taken globally to counter malaria.

However, WHO adds such data is just based on modeling and it is bad in 31 African countries as it is tough to say whether the cases are rising or falling in past more than a decade.

More than 300,000 children between the age group of five months and 17 months will be vaccinated in the three countries next year.
