Ethiopia Arrests Two In Connection To 2014 Terror Attacks

Two people have been sentenced in Ethiopia for terror attack planning in the country in 2014 and both are said to have links with Somali insurgent Al-Shabaab.

The two convicts are Anis Usman and Bedris Yesuf. Both are learned to have received training from the insurgent group and were engaged in recruiting members and establish a terror cell in the country.

Yesuf was also engaged in a shootout some nine years ago with the African Union forces in the Somali capital Mogadishu.

The Ethiopian forces are currently deployed in neighboring country Somalia to fight against Al-Shabaab and lately it is learned the nation will be pulling out the troops gradually.

Security watchers point out the security of Somalia will further be weaken up following withdrawal of the Ethiopian troops.

Kenya too has deployed its forces in Somalia in the fight against Al-Shabaab and so the country is also a receiver of terror attacks like that of The Westgate Mall and Garissa University.

Presently Ethiopia is under state of emergency to protect the country from anti-government protests in Oromia and Amhhara regions.

Very recently the country had revealed arrest of 98 Eritrean-sponsored anti-peace elements saying they were trying to cross the country following training from terror group to execute a mission of Ginbot 7 and Oromo Liberation Front (OLF).

Meanwhile, an official said the latest arrest was the result of coordinated efforts of defense force and local residents.
