John Magufuli Sacks 10K Civil Servants For Fake Documents

Tanzanian President John Magufuli ordered thousands of civil servants to leave by May 15.

About 10,000 employees are found to have submitted forced academic documents and the president said it is a criminal offence.

Magufuli added there are 9,932 people in government workforce who have presented fake academic certificates and all of them have been fired immediately as well as removed from payroll.

The president continued that such people are thieves and their names should be published in all the leading media in Tanzania to shame them for the wrong doing.

Also, the positions of the sacked employees will be declared vacant and open for others to apply with relevant and genuine document.

The ‘buldozer’ president further explained that these workers had been costing the government Ts700 billion per month as salaries.

An estimation reveals the government has lost Tsh257.94 billion until now through the fake document scam.

Magufuli said, “I am giving them up to May 15 to leave voluntarily, failing which the law must take its course. If found guilty, they should be imprisoned for seven years according to the law.”

No stones will be left unturned in the verification process of the candidates, said Minister of State in the President’s Office for Regional Administration, Local Government, Civil Service and Good Governance, Angella Kairuki.

She added they have found 94.23 percent workforce to have submitted valid documents.

A recent report reveals about 2.8 percent of the civil servants had presented incomplete information about their academic certificates as well as professional documents.
